Ever since our annual Christmas vacation in Park City, Utah, I’ve gotten so many requests for Park City recommendations and info on the area, so I thought I’d put together a blog post. I included all the things to do in Park City with kids because…. well, ask and you shall receive and it seems a lot of you are going to my favorite winter (and honestly, summer and fall) destination with your kiddos. We go to Park City every year for Christmas with my husband’s family. My husband’s family has been going out there for over 30 years, so we’re very familiar with the area. But Andrew and I came to know the area inside and out after living out there for a year in our early 20s. We also got engaged on Deer Valley mountain and married at Sundance Resort, which is just outside of Park City, so we have lots of good Park City (and beyond) recommendations, from restaurants to shopping to activities. Christmas is one of my favorite times to go to Park City because it’s a magical wonderland and such a special spot to celebrate the holidays, but before kids, we also loved to go out in late March for spring skiing when the powder never stops and it’s warm and sunny in the afternoons. We also love the area in the summertime, when it’s beautiful and there are so many fun outdoor activities. Fall is also a beautiful time to visit. Really the only time of year I’d recommend avoiding the area is late spring when the ski mountains close and it’s slushy and a bit dreary.
Park City is truly a magical spot, and I’m so excited to finally put together my Park City guide to share with those of you who are considering or planning to check it out. I included tons of things to do in Park City with kids, since that was my most frequent question in addition to requests for where to eat with kids, where to ski, and where to stay. I seriously couldn’t recommend Park City enough, whether you’re getting away as a couple or as a family, heading there during the ski season or the summertime or fall.
Where to Stay
Lodges at Deer Valley (great for families – perfect compromise of a home and hotel)
St. Regis (I would stay here if you’re traveling without the kiddos)
The Lodge at the Mountain Village (if you’re looking for ski in/ski out at Park City Mountain that’s family-friendly and more affordable especially at peak times; can’t beat the convenience)
Rent a House on Deer Valley Mountain (I prefer skiing Deer Valley and they have tons of great rentals you can book that are great for families; only downside is that the hotel/condo rentals offer more full service, from rides to ski valet that you don’t necessarily get with a house)
The Caledonian (if you want to stay right on Main Street in town; there’s a town lift that takes you to Park City so it works if you want to ski too)
Best Breakfast and Lunch Spots
Harvest (on Main Street or at Park City Mountain)
Eating Establishment on Main Street
Apex at Montage (for a fancier breakfast or lunch)
Daly’s Pub and Rec (the best for kids; it’s right on the mountain and they have bowling and arcade games, making it one of my favorite things to do in Park City with kids)
Deer Valley Resort (any of the restaurants are great and perfect for breakfast or lunch pre/post skiing; the turkey chili and blueberry mojitos are a must-have)
St. Regis Bar (adults only) or Mountain Terrace (great ski in/ski out option and apres too)
Stein Erickson for Sunday Brunch
Best “Nicer” Restaurants for Dinner
Grappa (super romantic – I recommend getting a sitter if you have the kiddos with you but all the Park City restaurants will work with kids)
Best Restaurants with Kids
Davanza’s (Andrew’s favorite pizza spot – get the bbq chicken; right in town)
Main Street Pizza and Noodle (on Main Street)
Squatters (a little outside Main Street; great food but always packed so go early)
Wasatch Brew Pub (at the top of Main Street; great for watching sports games too)
Butchers (a nicer restaurant that’s also kid-friendly; we recently ate in one of the heated snow globe/yurt things outside the restaurrant and it was awesome)
Deer Valley Resort (any of the restaurants on the mountain are great. I highly recommend booking Fireside dining or the seafood buffet for dinner one night)
Red Rock Brewery (at Redstone at the junction so right where you first turn into Park City off the highway from the airport)
Maxwell’s (at Redstone at the junction)
Daly’s Pub and Rec (the best for kids; it’s right on the mountain and they have bowling and arcade games so it’s one of our top things to do in Park City with kids)
Don Gallo (mexican)
Coolest Dining Experiences (With or Without Kids)
Deer Valley Seafood Buffet (I couldn’t leave this off my Park City guide – it’s one of my favorite nights of our trip)
Deer Valley Fireside Dining (such an awesome dining experience and food is so good; book a sleigh ride for the kids after)
Apres Ski
High West Distillery (really cool spot – worth checking out even for just a drink or sandwich)
Montage at Deer Valley
St. Regis at Deer Valley
Devanza’s
Legend’s Bar and Grill at Park City Mountain
Wasatch Brew Pub at the Top of Main Street
Things to Do With Kids (or Without)
Skiing at Deer Valley Resort (my favorite) or Park City Mountain
Woodward for sledding and tubing
Take a day trip to Sundance Resort (where Andrew and I got married – so beautiful, fun skiing and amazing food; great for date night too and it’s also one of my top things to do in Park City with kids)
Snow shoeing or cross country skiing at Soldier Hollow (just outside Park City)
Sleigh Ride (great to do before/after Fireside Dining)
Park City Museum (one of the best things to do in Park City with kids when the weather is bad or you’re not skiing or need an indoor break)
Bowling at Daly’s Pub at the Montage
Paddle Boarding at Deer Valley (in summer)
Fly Fishing in Provo (available year round as long as weather is warm enough at the lower altitudes which it often is)
Mountain Biking at Deer Valley or Park City mountains (summer/fall)
Hiking at Deer Valley or Park City Mountain (summer/fall)
Mountain Rides and Activities at Park City Mountain (in summer; ultimate kids destination)
