We’re heading to a big family party this weekend at the in-law’s beach club. I’m excited to finally get some color on my pasty body (how is it already July and I’m still this pale?) during the day, but the evening soiree has me stressing over attire a bit. Normally for evening events at the beach, white jeans and a tunic will do. But the beach club is a step up from a Hamptons backyard bbq — less strict than a country club but more rigid (conservative) than a beach bonfire with your friends. And the party isn’t going to be low-key grilling. With 60 guests and a sit-down dinner, it’s feeling more akin to a rehearsal dinner, but one I’ll be getting ready for in the locker room after hanging out all day at the beach. A fancy-ish sundress and espadrilles or dressy flat sandals feels like the perfect recipe to please the hosts (my in-laws) without sweating to death or worrying about some complicated outfit while a bunch of screaming kids are running around the ladies locker room.
