It seems shorts have gone as short as they can go, and as things often do in fashion, the trend has swung to the opposite end of the style spectrum, with long, Bermuda-style shorts making a comeback. The notoriously unflattering length has been updated this season in a wider, actually flattering silhouette. The boxier style has that cool reinvented ’90s minimalist vibe when paired with a crop top or another loose, oversized silhouette. But I know they seem tricky to style so I wanted to do a roundup of tips and inspo on how to style Bermuda shorts today.
Bermuda shorts are pretty much the only shorts you can wear to an office imo. I know that’s old school and I worked in fashion where you could getaway with any type of short, but I just feel like I like to uphold the sanctity of the office dress code, even in these ever-evolving times, and short shorts just don’t feel appropriate to me. But Bermuda shorts can totally work. They’re also a super cute option for a daytime lunch or event, or even for a dinner date.
The trick for how to style Bermuda shorts is to pair them with the right footwear and always a belt. You need a top tucked in. I love them with a crisp button up or tank or even t-shirt, but always tucked in and belted. You want to define the waist with these pants. I then love to add a blazer or jacket on top for the office, or just some cool accessories. For footwear, you can lean into the vibe with a more meanswear-inspired sandal or loafer, or you can contrast with something more feminine like a heeled sandal or even mary jane. Just don’t go too casual or too working girl (aka stay away from the pumps).
