When quarantine first began, I was thrilled to be able to not worry about getting dressed and putting on heels. But now, four months in, all I want to do is wear pretty dresses (I could still live without heels…). I’ve been dressing up a lot recently actually, and by dressing up, I really just mean getting dressed. And as you’ll see in my roundup of what I wore the first week of July 2020, get dressed up I did this week. Because you know what? Life is too short and I miss clothes and dare I say the clothes miss me?
I’ll save you the “getting dressed makes me feel better and more productive’ mumbo jumbo,” but I will say that I’m finding joy in dressing again. Maybe it’s because I can embrace a different, perhaps less practical and definitely less “board room” appropriate, look. I’ve been ditching my usual blacks and more streamlined silhouettes for florals and frills and super feminine dresses and tops while I’m not working in the city – looks that might feel too sweet or over the top for the office, but work right now. I mean most of it is impractical for working from home with kids, but I kind of don’t care anymore. Long floral gown to bbq in the backyard? Why not. White ruffled dress to chase after two little kids and a dog? You only live once, right? Plus, who will see the stains and isn’t that what stain sticks were invented for? (Any photoshop whizzes want to show me how to get rid of stains?)
This is what I wore this week to mostly run errands, host and attend a bunch of Zoom meetings, pick up James’ things from school. Here’s what I wore the first week of July 2020.
