When quarantine first began, I was thrilled to be able to not worry about getting dressed and putting on heels. But now, four months in, all I want to do is wear pretty dresses (I could still live without heels…). I’ve been dressing up a lot recently actually, and by dressing up, I really just mean getting dressed.
I’ll save you the ‘it makes me feel better and more productive’ mumbo jumbo, but I will say that I’m finding joy in dressing again. Maybe it’s because I can embrace a different, perhaps less practical and definitely less “board room” appropriate, look. I’ve been ditching my usual blacks and more streamlined silhouettes for florals and frills and super feminine dresses and tops – looks that might feel too sweet or over the top for the office, but work right now. I mean most of it is impractical for working from home with kids, but I kind of don’t care anymore. Long floral gown to bbq in the backyard? Why not. White ruffled dress to chase after two little kids and a dog? You only live once, right? Plus, who will see the stains? (Any photoshop whizzes want to show me how to get rid of stains, asking for a friend.)
This is what I wore this week to mostly run errands, host and attend a bunch of Zoom meetings, pick up James’ things from school.
