We’re moving to the suburbs! And having a baby! What were we thinking? I don’t know, but we need more space and honestly, I’m ready to get out of the city so moving to the suburbs felt like the next logical step for our family. It’s been hard to come to that conclusion, but we get out of the city every weekend and chance we get. We’ve really stopped taking advantage of all the city has to offer, and as much as I had one vision of myself as a city girl/mom, I’ve come to the realization that it’s not just me. So we’re taking a baby step toward the suburbs. We found a fixer upper that will allow me to live my Chip and Joanna Gaines dream, it’s in a suburb that’s close to the city which will make commuting easy, and happens to be where my husband grew up so we’ll have family nearby to help with the kiddos and a community we already feel a part of. And it’s a smart investment so if we decide it’s not for us or decide we want to move out to the country or move to another country entirely, we are pretty confident, we won’t have trouble offloading the property, especially after we fix it up.
But in the meantime, I think it’s going to be a sweet little home for family, offer us more space, and be a really special place for James to start school and to bring home our newest addition to our family. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be quite ready in time for us to move in before the baby arrives. We have a lot of renovations to get done — basically a gut renovation of the entire place, including the kitchen, master bath, bedrooms, living room, dining room, you name it. We’re not sure what we got ourselves into, but it’s fun to start planning albeit stressful, and I can’t wait to bring you all along for the journey of moving to the suburbs.
Anyone who has renovated, please tell me we’ll get through this and share your tips.
