I know that we typically think of lace as a spring or fall fabric, but I actually love to wear lace in summer. I think it’s just so pretty and can be light and airy enough for the heat. Plus, well, you don’t have to worry about the drafts. The delicate fabric is 100 percent feminine, and I love it. My wedding dress was lace, my welcome party dress was lace, and I love lace dresses and shirts. Maybe it’s the secret romantic in me (yes, cynic on the outside but hopeless romantic inside). And in summertime, the romantic in me especially comes out, and I find myself gravitating to anything feminine and frilly, like lace dresses and tops and even shorts. Anyone else?
With that said, figuring out how to wear lace in summer isn’t easy. You want to stay away from heavier fabrics, and stick to lighter variations of lace. Personally, I stick to white and creams, but pastels can work too. Black lace feels too heavy for the heat imho, but it can work in the right cut and style, especially for the office or a dressier event. But I tend to save darker lace for fall and winter. Plus, there’s nothing prettier than a light pastel lace dress, or a white or cream lace set.
