Like many of you, I’m currently trying to figure out how to keep my kids (well, mostly James) entertained and educated while I attempt to work from home. We are quarantining ourselves and practicing social-distancing in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, which means we don’t have childcare right now. Not only do I have to find ways to entertain James all day (poor Charlie just has to go along with whatever her brother is doing), but I also want to make them somewhat educational. I’ve been doing a lot of research for how to entertain a three year old at home, and found some really great activities to get you and your kids through the Coronavirus pandemic.
James’ preschool is offering an abridged Zoom class, but I still need to find ways to occupy him for the rest of the day, mostly indoors, without friends. I would like it to be somewhat educational and not all screen time and making messes. It’s not easy to balance being a full time mom and teacher while also trying to do a full time job, but I ordered a bunch of activities and toys geared toward three year olds off Amazon recently that are helping Mrs. Mommy feel more prepared for our long days at home. One thing I’ve learned is that you don’t need tons of elaborate activities planned for every second to entertain a three year old at home. In fact, I’m enjoying watching James play with his toys, learn to self entertain, and how he gets so much joy and excitement out of seemingly mundane activities. With that said, I like to be prepared and find ways to entertain a three year old at home while I’m answering emails or need to jump on a work call.
I ordered a bunch of educational toys and workbooks for James to do to help it feel like school for at least 20 minutes a day. As much as he loves having mom home and getting to “just play”, James misses his class, friends, and routine, and he loves learning and singing and doing art projects. So I’m excited to have some new learning toys and activities to keep his mind busy and keep him entertained at home.
Here are the activities and toys I ordered to keep my three year old entertained at home right now.
