Every year, right around now, in the midst of the winter doldrums, I begin to obsess over a new coat. And while at the start of the season, it’s something I want and am jealous of other people I see wearing it, by mid-January, it’s gotten to be a full-blown obsession. Last year, it was the Canada Goose Parka, which given last winter’s endless snow and frigid cold, ended up being well worth the splurge that has continued to pay off during ski trips and this winter’s cold spells. This year, I’m ready for something a bit more luxe yet equally cozy — a shearling coat. The thing is, it’s a substantial splurge and as per usual, rather than investing in one at the beginning of the season and letting it pay off in more wear, I’m hesitant to splurge at this point tbh given how mild our winter has been. But then a cold day hits and I have somewhere a little fancier where a Canada Goose feel up to par, or I see someone wrapped in the luxe warmth of shearling, and I race home to start perusing my options for the 100th time. Black, brown, or even grey, it just adds such a luxe coziness to any look and makes bundling up in the short days of January so much more bearable, ya know? Plus, considering its all of my outfit most people see in winter, it feels worth the splurge even if it means wearing the same old thing underneath, ya know?
