It’s winter again somehow, and it’s coming in hot (well, actually the opposite of hot) on the East Coast, where temps have dropped into the teens just to make things extra challenging for those of us who have to leave our houses in the winter. If it were up to me, I’d never leave my house during the winter. I prefer to hibernate, but unfortunately, I have school drop offs and pick ups, kids activities and work meetings and events that are forcing me to actually get dressed. Personally, when it’s this cold, I prefer to hibernate, as I’m sure most people do. But since I have to get out of my warm, heated hoouse and brave the unbearable cold and wind chill most days, I’ve had to learn the art of layering and invest in some really warm coats. I am always cold, so when it’s cold outside, it’s just painful for me. I know a lot of us struggle with how to look chic when it’s cold outside, so I thought I’d share some outfit ideas and my favorite layering pieces for the cold weather.
I do have a background in fashion and service journalism from over 15 years working in women’s magazines, but I consider myself an especially skilled expert in dressing for the cold weather. I grew up in Chicago where the wind chill regularly dipped to -20 degrees during the winter months (some days school would be canceled because it was just too dangerous to leave the house, which is crazy when you think about it). Then I went to college in upstate New York where it was snowy and cold from about October through May. And while winters in NYC and now Connecticut have been milder so far, we do spend quite a bit of time in Park City (where I also spent a year living) so I’m pretty well versed in dressing for all cold-weather conditions. And as I mentioned, I hate being cold, so I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out how to look chic when it’s cold outside. So if you’re looking for some winter outfit ideas, look no further than right here for inspo on how to look chic when it’s cold outside.
