Combining the best parts of winter fashion comfy and cozy, a sweater dress is truly one of the best kinds of dresses. I love nothing more than to cozy up in an oversized knit when the temps drop, which is why when it gets cold, you’ll find me in one of these just about every day I have to leave the house and jeans or leggings won’t suffice. Whether you pair it with tights and heels or booties, tall boots, or over skinnies or leggings with sneaks or furry boots, a sweater dress always looks chic and put-together. It’s such a versatile piece, making for lots of sweater dress outfit ideas. It’s truly one of those pieces that you can get lots of wear out of each fall and winter.
A sweater dress is comfy but polished enough for the office, but toss it on for the weekend to look instantly way too put-together for the weekend without sacrificing an ounce of comfort. If you choose a classic silhouette and hue, it’ll never go out of style, making it a smart investment. When wearing a sweater dress, I tend to keep the rest of my look pretty simple for a more streamlined yet chic look. Sometimes I”ll add an Hermes scarf of cashmere wrap if it’s really cold. If I want to polish it up a bit, I may toss a tweed or plaid or camel blazer over. But typically, I keep the extras pretty simple and just switch up the footwear depending on the occasion. Everything from sneakers to heeled boots work, so it really depends on the occasion, setting and how much walking I’ll be doing. For a date night, I’ll even make a sweater dress work with heeled boots. I prefer a longer silhouette — either 3/4 or ankle length — for a sweater dress. But a shorter knit can be fun and work for office or a night out. Here are some of my favorite sweater dress outfit ideas.
