Working in magazines, especially fashion mags, there’s always pressure to look stylish. But I find dressing for every day and non-work events, like what to wear to brunch or dinner with couple friends or parent teacher conferences or my son’s Thanksgiving chapel service. I have my dressier work clothes and my hang-at-home sweats and leggings, but I always stress over what to wear to the other stuff, and these days, that’s mainly school events and casual holiday parties.
I actually started this blog because I knew I wasn’t alone and would I create mood boards to help me find outfit inspo for various occasions. I wanted all the what to wear answers in one place that I could easily search and scroll by occasion, season etc.. While I now like to share my personal style as well as my family, parenting advice, and personal experiences, I still want to stay true to my goal of helping to make dressing for wherever you’re going easier so you can avoid those closetful of clothes and nothing to wear moments.
Now that James is in school, I’m finding that I’m having those what to wear moments more often and I know I can’t be alone. Recently, we had parent-teacher conferences, a holiday event for new families, and a special Thanksgiving event at his school, and I stressed over what to wear to all of them. And then I found this sweater and I now have an instant casual holiday outfit for basically everything I have to go to this season.
The peplum sweater is under $60, goes with everything but makes just enough of a statement with the peplum and puff sleeves to be a bit more stylish and festive than just a basic cashmere crewneck (my go to for drop off and running around). I love how it looks with jeans and flats for a casual new families event, with black pants for a special Thanksgiving service at James school, and I may pair it with a midi skirt and heels for Thanksgiving. It would look equally as chic with white wide leg jeans or even a denim mini for an elevated daytime look needed for any of those rando fall and holiday school events.
My only regret? I sized up. I have a longer torso, so I often like to go a bit bigger in tops and since I’m breastfeeding, my chest is about 3x’s it’s usual size, so I went with a larger size. I’m still trying to figure out tops for this post-partum phase, and honestly, I’m realizing that more fitted styles are more flattering. I think the larger size just makes me look bigger, even though I feel more comfortable in looser fits right now. I would say it runs pretty true to size, so I would get your regular size when ordering.
