If there’s a winter night to get dressed to the nines, it’s definitely New Year’s Eve. Personally, I love a black tie invitation — it’s an excuse to wear a long elegant gown or a super fancy cocktail dress and feel like a red carpet star. It’s the adult version of playing dress up, and on New Year’s Eve it’s even more fun, because you can go all-out sexy, sparkly, fancy, or a combo of all three. I have gotten a lot of questions about what to wear to a black tie New Year’s Eve party, so I think people are going fancy this year, and I’m all for it. I think we should use every excuse we can to get really dressed up and celebrate. Plus, there are so many pretty black tie dresses out there right now and I love how for New Year’s, you can go with a bold color or something really extra.
I put together a guide for what to wear to a black tie New Year’s Eve party and included a variety of styles and looks. I figure you may want to step outside your comfort zone to ring in the New Year, so there are some really fun and festive options in there, as well as some elegant, classic styles. Although black tie often makes us think of long dresses and gowns, for New Year’s Eve, I think you can also go short if the dress is fancy enough. I don’t usually go for long gowns, but this red dress inspired me and it’s a perfect way to end the holiday season. I also love a black gown, which you can wear again and again for years to come — something I look for in a formal gown since they tend to be pricey. So if you’re going all out this New Year’s, here’s what to wear to a black tie New Year’s Eve party.
