August always marks the beginning of the end of summer, and yet it always feels like summer has just begun when August 1 rolls around. In some ways it has. School doesn’t get out until late June, and summer doesn’t feel like it’s officially kicked off until the Fourth of July, and then it just whizzes by as you savor each precious weekend to soak in the sun. August is one of my favorite times to spend at the beach. We always to try to go out to our favorite spot in the Hamptons for at least a weekend or two in August. The ocean is warmer, the beach is beautiful, and the world seems to semi-slow down in anticipation of September and back to school. Working in the publishing world, August tends to be one of the busiest times as we are always working ahead, but we get a little lull before fashion week and the holiday craze come on. So I’m going to take advantage this year, especially since it seems we may be returning to the office in the fall and will be spending as much time at the beach as possible. I always like to share some outfit inspo, so I’ve pulled together some ideas for what to wear for an August weekend at the beach.
I’ll be keeping it easy, breezy, and by that I mean swimsuits, my favorite white gauzy shorts, denim cutoffs, printed tunics and caftans, white jeans, striped tees, a light layering sweater or two, flip-flops, and a big hat. Like I said, easy, breezy. Of course for evening beach parties and hitting the ice cream store or shops post-beach, I’ll throw in some sundresses and maxi dresses. If you’re planning to spend some time in the sand before summer’s over, here’s what to wear for an August weekend at the beach.
