Spring, are you there yet? Because it sure doesn’t feel like it! It’s been a chilly start to spring on the East Coast to say the least. It feels weird to whip out Easter egg pastels when it’s not even 30 degrees outside, and as much as I love fashion, I am too damn old (and pale) to brave no tights or sandals until it hits at least 60 degrees. But I’m trying to incorporate at least some subtle nods to spring while I wait for the weather to get warm enough to whip out these pasty legs and unpedicured toes. Dressing for cold weather in the middle of April is tricky, so I wanted to share the perfect cold spring outfit that I recently wore on a 30 degree day in April.
This dress was the perfect answer to a cold spring outfit that can work in April, and the under $200 price really can’t be beat. I love the pretty florals contrasted with the black backdrop, and the ruffle sleeve detail. It may seem a little dark for spring, but it’ll look super cute with sandals for work or a night out when the weather gets warmer. I also love how you can wear the print year-round but it still feels fresh and light enough for spring.
Since it was about 30 degrees on the day I wore this cold spring outfit, I paired this floral number with my fave faux fur leopard print coat. Florals and leopard print is one of my favorite combos, so it made me feel slightly less depressed about the wind chill. I am looking forward to warmer temps so I can pair it with sandals or sneakers for a day date.
As this cold spring outfit shows, the trick to dressing for cold spring days is to layer in a soft print with warmer layers. You really only need one nod to spring like this dress, and you can pair the rest with your winter essentials. Case in point: A leopard print fur coat might feel ridiculous for April, but with a floral print, it works.
