Admittedly this trend isn’t for me. I’m not one for anything fussy (by which I really mean anything that will annoy me by constantly becoming untied or restraining my neck movement) or girly. And bows adorning the neck of a dress or shirt are both those things, making me basically allergic. And now that I’ve passed the big 3-0, I’ve come to grips with the fact that I’ll never be that person who wears white without getting something on it (even though I love white and therefore, still insist on wearing it all the time) and likewise, I’ll never be the girl who wear a bow anywhere and not have it end up crooked or undone (or both). And (besides the white), I try to dress and shop accordingly. (How does the saying go? Accept the things I cannot change, change the things I can, and have the wisdom to know when to buy on sale… Or something like that.) However, I’m warming up to this season’s tie neck style necklines, because they can be worn open (read: unfussy, perf for me) or in a neat bow (which would fall more in the Taylor Swift’s of the world camp). With its styling nonchalance, it’s not surprising it’s another one of the ’70s trends having a second wind, and you can either go with the more breezy boho untied style, or the more buttoned-up, tied in a tight thin bow, ’70s power girl option. Or nod to the french with a side knot to update a boho maxi dress or straight-out-of-the-’70s skirt.
