I’ve decided to embark on an experiment. Rather than buying new things at the start of fall, I decided to clean out my closet. But since I have so much trouble parting with clothes I think I might wear again, should wear, might fit into, etc., you know the drill, I decided to take everything out that doesn’t fit with the look I want to pull off this fall and make me feel like the chicest woman in the room and box it up and store it. That way I feel better about getting it out of my closet, but I also pare down my closet to the things I really want to wear. It’s a slow process with a new baby in the house, but I promise I will start chronicling my closet clean out. But I’ve found that most of my closet is going into storage, which is kind of scary and probably why past close clean-outs have failed. It suddenly seems like there’ snot much left. But that’s sort of the point. I found when pregnant, it was so much easier to get dressed with fewer options and I made a point to only invest in clothes I really liked so while I wore a lot of things on repeat, I liked everything I wore a lot. True it meant I had like five days of outfits on repeat, but I was routinely complemented on my pregnancy style, and I think that says a lot about the power of investing in really nice items you love and make you feel chic rather than settling for more clothes. True I hate the pain of investing in big ticket items, but it makes more sense than spending that amount on four items that I like but don’t love and end up pushing to the back of my closet after a season. Long story short: now I understand why capsule collections have become so popular. So while I embark upon the massive undertaking of cleaning out my closet, I am also looking to the items worth investing in this season that I can wear over and over from now through the end of the year and beyond and that won’t go into storage or to goodwill in the next closet clean. So in the meantime, here are the only items I’ll be investing in this fall and all you need to look chic and update your closet this fall.
