Since it’s officially spring and ain’t no weather man going to rain on my sartorial parade, I have been dressing for warmer temps. Even though winter had me in a neutral phase, I love nothing more than pretty prints and colors for spring. Florals are of course a go-to and I’ve recently even experimented with polka dots. I tend to stick to more timeless designs that I can see myself wearing season after season, but I recently decided to give the tropical prints trend a try, at the office no less, and I’m shocked to say, I’m a fan.
Usually I’d save anything bright and tropical for a beach vacay, but I love how this more muted blue and black print makes it work for an urban office setting. I also love that the silhouette has a bit of whimsy to it with the ruffle sleeves and shorter hemline, but still appropriate to hold its own in a room full of suits. I paired this dress with my favorite black ankle booties as its still pretty cold right now, but it’d be fun with white booties or can easily dress up with heels and a blazer. For a more casual event, I would throw on a pair of my favorite sneakers or a pair of flat sandals.
If you’re planning to dive into the tropical trend outside the tropics, balance the beach-y vibes with more toned down neutrals and structured pieces.
