Date Night Outfits for Moms

Ok, I realize the title (or hed as we say in publishing) of this post is oddly specific, but I just feel like date night has a different meaning once you’re a parent. Date night before kids is a totally different ball game. You can plan something on a whim, go somewhere new and exciting and far away, spend hours getting ready or no time at all. It doesn’t require advanced planning, generous grandparents or a sitter, the ability to get ready in five minutes while littles hang at your feet and go through your makeup. It also often involves let’s be serious, sexier attire. I’m not saying that moms can’t wear sexy things and more power to you if you do. And date night is a great reason because you don’t have to worry about the kids ruining it. But personally, I have retired bodycon dresses and tiny going out tops and anything super short or low cut, perhaps permanently. Not just because I’m a mom but partly because things have shifted since kids but also my tolerance for being uncomfortable or risking a wardrobe malfunction has disappeared. I also think my style has just evolved with age, for better or for worse. So hence, I’m rounding up date night outfits for moms. Now I’m not sharing frumpy looks by any means, and I realize some of you will think I’ve lost my edge. They wouldn’t be wrong. But now date night is also an excuse to wear the top or dress I like, even if it’s something my husband totally wont’t get, because well, three kids in and he’s stuck with me and it’s my night to wear something I love without it getting ruined. I also don’t have the energy to put tons of thought into cute going out outfits anymore. Putting on pants that button and washing my hair feels like enough of an effort. This is starting to sound oddly depressing and these looks totally aren’t. So I’ll stop talking and here are date night outfits for moms and your reminder to book that date night. Mom and Dad need a night out too.
